Project 1: Wrap Skirt!

Here is a preview of our Thursday Class Project: Wrap skirts! We hope you will join us for the fun! This one was made from some cool vintage fabric Tanya brought in. We still have to attach the bias to the waistband and sew the trim on the hem.

We thought it would also look cool in a fall weight wool. You will need two yard of fabric for the main fabric and 1 yard for the trim.

To register email modernspool@gmail.com. Hope to see you this Thursday!

Sewing for Grown-ups Part 1 and 2

Who knew sewing was so much fun! We knew - that is why we convinced 7 willing gals to join us and rev up those machines for the last two Thursday mornings. We sewed seams, zippers, hems, and button holes - all those things that make our palms sweat, but guess what? It wasn't so hard after all!
Everyone passed the basics with flying colors and are welcome to drop in and sew on Tuesday morning and practice for our 1st project class next Thursday "Wrap Party!" Request a registration form if you are brave enough to join us! Email us at modernspool@gmail.com

Friday Afternoon Fun: Patterns with Tape!

I brought in a jacket to the studio today that I was planning to make a pattern out of (lets say my size has improved since I bought it a few years ago...) Tanya suggested we try a method she had read about in Threads magazine using masking tape. I gasped, hyperventilated a little, and then said, "Sure, why not! It sounds fun!" My draping teacher would have banned me from class, however it was a great method for making a pattern! I won't say it was easy, I did have to true up the pieces, measure them and it took quite a while...but it was fun and I know I will pull this trick out of my hat often.
